Gloom And Doom Day For Long Island Minor High Tidal Coastal Flooding

Thanks to the easterly flow we are seeing Coastal Flood Advisories up for Long Island on both the south and north shore today. Tidal flooding should be minor in nature and not pose any serious issues but do be advised there will be some high tide flooding in vulnerable areas. This is all thanks to the onshore flow which has strengthened this weekend as winds have gone from northeast to east. These conditions will continue overnight and into the first part of Monday.

We also have some issues with patchy light rain and drizzle today. For now most of it is inland. There is also on the radar an area of steady rain to the south and Long Island could be clipped by this later this afternoon and into this evening. However rainfall amounts will be light and mainly under a quarter of an inch total into Monday morning. This is more of a nuisance than anything else. Temperatures today will be in the 60s all day long with a raw damp wind from the east.

Low pressure is developing to the south off the North Carolina coast and is forecast to pass well to the southeast of Long Island tonight and Monday. It will also weaken so the onshore flow will start to slowly weaken on Monday. It will still leave us in lots of clouds with temperatures Monday in the 60s to near 70. It will still be a gloom and doom type of day Monday but high pressure does build southward on Tuesday.

Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs back into the 70s except 60s at the shore. Wednesday through Friday will be no worse than partly sunny. Highs will be in the mid 70s Wednesday and mid 70s to near 80 Thursday and Friday before the next cold front arrives with showers next Saturday.
