Hermine Hooking Northwest East End Cautious
Hermine has finally begun to turn north and northwestward. Also during this evening you can see an arc of clouds developing on the northwest and western side of the storm. A NOAA plane this evening flew into the storm and found flight level winds of 77 kts in that developing arc of squalls. It appears that area is swinging back westward and it could brush the East End of Long Island Monday morning so we need to watch that area carefully. It could produce some gusty winds to gale force or higher there along with some heavy rain. If this happens I don’t expect the squalls to survive as they back westward. Right now this would be an issue just for Eastern Long Island.
Otherwise on Monday we may see clouds and some sun in Nassau County with more clouds as you go east. Also it could be breezy at times except along the Suffolk south shore as you go east where it could be windy with some gale force wind gusts. High tide Monday morning is the one that could produce coastal flooding so that will have to watched closely.
Weather conditions improve and warm up Tuesday. Then get set for summer weather mid and late week with highs reaching 90. In fact Thursday and Friday we could see near record highs in some places.
