Tropical Storm Warning Long Island Sound &
South Shore Coastal Waters
Changes have been made in the tropical storm warning. They are cancelled west of route 112 and remain in effect east of 112 from Port Jefferson Harbor east to Greenport and on the south shore from Montauk Point west to Fire Island Inlet. They also remain in effect for the coastal waters of both the north and south shore.
Hermine is intensifying some as as a non tropical cyclone. It has also begun a more northward course. Given that the storm tracked 200 miles further east the threat now is confined to the Eastern half of Long Island with the greatest threat for tropical storm conditions on the East End Monday. We continue to watch the development of squalls on the radar to the south east that are swinging northwestward. They could sweep across the East End on Monday with gusty winds and some briefly heavy downpours if they hold together.
Western areas should be spared this completely though there may be clouds around and a bit of a gust breeze. Gale force winds should they occur should be confined to eastern areas and the coastal waters. Tides could run 2 to 4 feet above normal at the time of high tide.
