Hurricane Matthew Long Island Noreaster Threat This Weekend
No Weather Issues Other Than Clouds Through Friday

At least for the rest of the work week we don’t anticipate any serious weather issues for Long Island. This morning we have these stubborn low clouds again and a bit of a northeast breeze. High pressure from the north is building southward so I think there is a fair shot we could go partly sunny later this morning and this afternoon. Temperatures today will pretty much hold in the 60s. The radar doesn’t have much of anything going on other than the odd sprinkle during this morning and that is just about it.
Even though clouds will be close by tonight and Wednesday I think we should at least partially clear out tonight with lows in the 50s and be no worse than partly sunny for Wednesday with highs in the 60s.
Thursday and Friday look like 2 nice very warm days with no worse than partly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 70s.

Two things to notice here regarding track. First is the track is offshore and not up the coast which is important. Second is that as we move through time Hurricane Matthew begins to look more and more like a late fall noreaster and a rather formidable one. If this is the case it would less impacts on Long Island to some degree. Also this weekend is a first quarter moon which is a low tide cycle. The third thing and possibly the most important one is relief from the drought.
HURRICANE MATTHEW LONG ISLAND RAINFALL FORECAST
If Hurricane Matthew transitions over to post tropical cyclone, it could put Long Island inside the arc of heavy rain. The GFS model which takes a noreaster like track gives Long Island 6 inch plus rains. Now I’m not ready to forecast that yet but if this track is correct it could very well happen. We could cut the drought deficit in half in one day.
It should be stated clearly that Hurricane Matthew is certainly a formidable hurricane at the moment. However it should also be stated that Hurricane Matthew is going to be moving up the coast and impacting us in ways different from Hurricane Sandy. This needs to be clearly understood.
