Long Island 70s Begin Today. First 80s of Spring Thursday Friday
We are finally here to the first of May after a chilly April. The month of April finished a little over 3 degrees below average at Islip and this is the 5th month out of the last 6 of below average temperatures. That is behind us now and this morning we still see on the satellite picture above and on the wider shot below, one last band of clouds from the strong upper air low to the northeast. There are also some light showers on the radar over Eastern Long Island but these should be pulling out to the east shortly. Central and Western Long Island are already enjoying sunshine. Temperatures will respond quickly with a west wind today.
US SATELLITE
With the winds today from the west there should be very little sea breeze action except right along the immediate beaches to maybe Sunrise Highway by late afternoon. Otherwise highs will reach the low and middle 70s.
LONG ISLAND FORECAST HIGHS WEDNESDAY
Wednesday is looking very warm with sunshine again and highs reaching the upper 70s and lower 80s except right along the immediate shore where highs will just reach the 60s. The sea breeze again will be mainly from Sunrise Highway southward though it may move inland in Suffolk county late in the afternoon or evening. Thursday brings another day of upper 70s to at least lower 80s away from the ocean with sunshine and a few clouds.
THURSDAY FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES
There are no important changes in the longer range for Friday which will be the last very warm day. We will see some clouds and the chance for late showers or a thunderstorm. The weekend is looking a bit more questionable at this point as the next cold front is going to get hung up along the coast and we may have to wait for a second push of dry air to move eastward. This could set up the threat for showers on Sunday. We will address this later today in our long range post.
