Long Island Battle Cold & Backdoor Cold Fronts
Long Island Battle Cold & Backdoor Cold Fronts
As we said yesterday, just because you cross some magical moment in time and switch seasons doesn’t mean the weather suddern turns beautiful like some sort of fairy tale. Spring is contrary to popular belief a not so nice time of year especially if you are near the ocean. It is also not so nice in the first part of the season as cold air masses come down from Canada and remind you of the season just past. This is the situation we find ourselves in today. However the other side of that equation is that when the cold air masses pull out it warms up in a big hurry and we find ourselves seeing that ahead of us for Friday and in particular for Saturday.
Satellite loop this morning shows some clouds moving through but there is dry air to the northwest that should try and get in here later today. I think clouds with some hints or breaks of sunshine is the right way to approach this as temperatures top out in the 50s.

REGIONAL RADAR
Radars are showing some light passing showers going by and they should be of little consequence once they are done. No rain is expected for the rest of this week.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Wednesday and Thursday will be two very cold days with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Thursday morning will be especially cold with most lows in the teens and lower 20s.
However the warm up for Friday and Saturday remains somewhat on course with temperatures Friday rebounding back into the 50s. Saturday with some sunshine and a west wind, highs should reach the 60s to near 70 for areas south of NYC but for Long Island there is a big issue. The ocean is very cold this time of year and that makes an ocean wind a big problem. There is also a bigger issue at hand.
Long Island Battle Saturday Backdoor Cold Front
A back door cold front is going to be dropping southward and overnight weather models have it coming through faster. This could mean areas just north and east of NYC including Long Island will remain in the 50s and 40s while areas to the south enjoy that warm day. We will watch this development closely. Also with low pressure coming out of the Ohio Valley and reforming to our south, it looks like a cold rain is setting up for Sunday and Monday.
