Long Island Battling Clouds Next Few Days Showers Downpours Friday Night Saturday
After what was a really nice day with a bit of a busy wind and temperatures that made the low and mid 60s everywhere, we start dealing with weak weather systems over the next 2 days followed by a stronger system for Friday night into Saturday. Friday night begins Passover and Sunday is Easter so weather and travel will be front and center for most folks late this weekend and for the weekend so we will try to lay down how this is all going to play out. First off tonight we have a weak disturbance with clouds moving southeastward from Northern Pennsylvania and that will move through tonight.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
It is a relatively narrow area of rain that is showing up on the regional radar tonight and this area is going to be weakening as it nears the coast. We might see a little light rain tonight or some spot showers. i don’t believe this amounts to much of anything rain wise and by morning much of the rain will be gone from the radar screens.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Weather conditions on Wednesday will improve rather quickly with clouds giving way to mostly sunny skies by 8 or 9am and it should be sunny for the rest of the day with highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60. The wind will be light and become onshore as the day wears on which holds the temperatures down. Then clouds return Wednesday night with another shot for a little rain or a few spot showers. Thursday will be a bit of a different kind of day with a warm front to the south and lots of clouds here. Areas to the south in Southern New Jersey will break out in some sun and be in the 70s but we will be sitting in clouds all day with an ocean wind and highs just in the 50s. There might even be a little spotty light rain or drizzle on Thursday in a few spots. Friday brings a storm system from the Plains that will be heading into the Appalachians. The winds will turn south southwest and we should reach the 60s to near 70 in inland areas. Then the rains come Friday night into Saturday early afternoon in the form of downpours and possible thunderstorms. At the moment we are thinking that an inch to an inch and a quarter of rain is possible. The rains should end and weather conditions will try and improve later Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Temperatures will be in the 60s Saturday.
The issue with Sunday is that an upper air trough and the dying storm in the Appalachians will be moving into upstate NY. This will put us under an unstable atmosphere so I’m thinking clouds with some breaks of sun and the chance for passing showers. Highs Sunday will be in the 60s. Next week we should dry out for a day or two with some sunshine Monday and Tuesday and highs in the 60s to near 70.
