Long Island Weekend Warmer Showers Thunderstorms
In a week where we struggled with low clouds and ocean winds at times we head into the weekend with lots of volatility. First off we have a cold front that is approaching tonight from the west and clouds that are around now are temporarily losing their grip allowing for a few breaks of sun. This won’t last as a cold front approaches tonight. There will be no weather issues this evening however after about 10pm or so showers will start sweeping in from the west.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Regional radar is showing showers developing to the southwest in Virginia moving north northeast. These won’t have impact here other than a passing shower as they stay mainly to our west. However on the regional radar we see a solid area of heavy showers moving slowly shifting eastward with the cold front. This will play through Long Island overnight into Saturday morning. There could be a few thunderstorms in the mix with some locally heavier rains. Rainfall amounts will be on average of about 1/2 inch but if thunderstorms get involved there may be some locally higher amounts.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
By morning we will see the showers end and move offshore and then we will see those clouds break up allowing for some sunshine. The sooner the sun comes out the better the chance for temperatures to head into the 70s. Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk county stand the best chance of seeing this while elsewhere 60s should do it for highs. We could finish on the higher end IF the front gets out a little faster.
There are no issues for Saturday night though clouds will be around with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Sunday the next cold front approaches and we will have clouds around much of the day with highs into the 60s. A few spot showers are possible later in the day Sunday into Sunday evening but it is quite possible that much of the day will be dry. Then the front moves through with more showers and thunderstorms Sunday night into Monday morning. Another 1/2 inch to an inch is possible with thunderstorms being the big variable here.
Once this front passes weather conditions will improve Monday afternoon with clouds giving way to some breaks of sunshine with highs in the 60s to near 70. Tuesday looks like the one day that seems uncomplicated with sun and clouds and highs in the 60s. Then later next week we battle onshore winds, clouds..chance for showers, and a stronger cold front with showers and thunderstorms possible late in the week.
