Long Island Beach Afternoon Radar Loops
Radar and satellite pictures are quiet and should remain so for the rest of the day.
Tonight clouds return and some showers will develop in the early morning hours taking us until after daybreak before a warm front moves to our north. We should see a break in the action during the afternoon though a few showers can’t be ruled out. Then as a cold front approaches showers and thunderstorms will develop during the evening (after 5pm) and some thundestorms could be strong. Right now it appears the strongest storms will pass from New Jersey southward. As always a lot will depend on the wind and how much of a marine influence we have as that tends to weaken thunderstorms as they move from west to east. The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service has Long Island in an areas of “marginal risk” for severe weather which means there is a small chance but a chance nonetheless.
Once those thunderstorms move out weather conditions will improve later Sunday night and for Monday. Rainfall from thunderstorms could be locally heavy.
Rainfall amounts are going to ultimately depend on how those thunderstorms hold together and amounts could be higher or lower than forecast. Check the latest beach forecast for rip current risk and uv index information
