Long Island Enjoys A Warm Up Tuesday
Showers Thunderstorms Wednesday Windy Colder Thursday
The spring is always a struggle on Long Island especially thanks to the impact of the cold ocean. This evening like everyone else we are seeing some clouds and there are scattered showers on the radar to the west. Most should disappear after sunset and we will see leftover clouds give way to clearing skies later tonight. Long Island lows will be in the low to mid 40s.

As we get deeper into the spring season and the ocean begins to warm, its impact slowly lessens. With the right wind and a good deal of sunshine, Long Island starts to taste some of the warmer temperatures that are usually going on to the west. Tuesday could be one of those days and it is certainly the best weather day this week.
Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County should reach the lower 70s. Most highs should be 65 to 70 with the exception being the south shore south of Sunrise Highway and the South Fork where temperatures will likely be in the 50s.
Wednesday’s cold front will produce a line of showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon however those storms, which could be strong when to the west of Long Island will likely weaken somewhat as they head east which is typical in the spring. The wind from the south will bring in a bit of a cooler stable marine layer and effectively kill off most of these thunderstorms as they move east. It will be dry into at least mid afternoon however and highs will be in the mid 50s to lower 60s. Following the front will be windy cold day Thursday with highs just into the 50s and northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts. We should see some sunshine though but it won’t do much to take the sting out of the air. Friday looks to be breezy with some sunshine. Highs will probably break 60 or so.
The weekend remains a question. Saturday still looks like the better of the two weekend days with sunshine and some late day arriving clouds with highs in the 60s.
A cold front approaches Saturday night and a wave develops on that front and heads from the Gulf States to the Middle Atlantic coast Sunday morning. A large area of rain will accompany this. The low should move along with rain possibly coming to an end during Sunday afternoon from west to east. Highs will be just in the 50s. Beyond that the GFS model wants to warm it up nicely for the first half of next week but the European model is a bit more hesitant on that idea. The GFS is less blocky and allows a ridge to pop up in the east so that will be the issue at hand. If the blocky pattern is weaker than the warm up has a shot of happening.
