Long Island Gets Once More Nice Day Before Showers Thunderstorms Friday

& A Colder Weekend

We are going to have one more nice day weather on Long Island today but there is a bit of a caveat. Today we will have a south wind over a cooling ocean. That will keep temperatures getting much above the upper 50s and lower 60s. We will some sunshine but some high clouds will be in the mix too as the next cold front begins its approach. No rain is forecast today however. Then tonight as the atmosphere saturates, we will see thickening clouds, temperatures holding in the 50s. There could be a few showers in the early morning hours that wet the ground a bit but the bulk of shower and thunderstorm activity will come later in the morning Friday into the mid to late afternoon. For now we have very quiet radars.

Showers and thunderstorms should come in toward the end of the morning commute and last into the mid afternoon before ending from west to east. There will also be a bit of a gusty southerly wind to 30 mph or so. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s for highs. During the mid to late afternoon those showers and thunderstorms should begin to end from west to east.

Once this cold front comes through, it will turn colder for Saturday. We probably clear out Friday night and start Saturday with some sun but clouds will increase. Saturday highs will be in the 50s. Two more upper troughs and cold front will be moving through. The first late Saturday could produce a few scattered afternoon and evening showers. Then it turns colder behind it leaving us with clouds and some sunshine for Sunday along with a gusty wind. Highs Sunday will be just in the upper 40s to around 50. Another front and low pressure arrives early Monday morning and there could be a few showers as this goes by. Behind it we are left with breezy and cold conditions Monday with highs just in the 40s. We will drop into the low and mid 30s. Tuesday morning. Tuesday look for sunshine but it will be cold. Highs will just be in the mid to upper 40s.

As far as rainfall amounts are concerned for Long Island, I would put it in a range of 3/4 inch to 1.25 inches so we will average around an inch. I don’t expect any serious flooding issues other than what results from leaf clogged drains and perhaps one or two of the usual suspect spots.
