Long Island Highs Mid to Upper 90s Heatwave Breaks Late Monday
It was a very hot Sunday to finish off the weekend on Long Island. Inland highs reached the middle 90s. Southshore highs will near 90 degrees and it was in the 80s along the shore. The sea breeze is in and we have thundertorms on the radar well to the northwest and inland so it seems that we will not see any pop up thunderstorms this evening. We will have a very warm and humid night ahead of us with lows in the 70s except in the coolest spots in Suffolk county where we could see temperatures drift down closer to 70 degrees.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
Monday will be a transition day. It will be very warm to hot and it will be very humid as dew points climb toward 70. High temperatures are a bit tricky as we will have more clouds around especially in the morning. That will reduce the daytime heatings somewhat. We will probably be about 5 degrees cooler than today but highs should still reach the upper 80s and lower 90s.
Later in the afternoon and evening we could see some thunderstorms as a cold front approaches and passes through. The thunderstorms are not a guarantee but the risk is there and there is the risk for severe weather so it will be another day where an eye to the sky and the radar will be a priority. Once the front passes we will see a less humid and slightly cooler air mass build in for Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be back into the 80s and humdiity levels will be more reasonable. Some sunshine will return Tuesday though there will be some clouds around early in the day. We are looking at some sunshine for Wednesday. Very warm and more humid conditions will return for Thursday and Friday as another weather front approaches.
