Long Island Rain Thunderstorms Moving Through Into This Evening
The cold front hanging to our west put Long Island in a bit of warm sector today and as a result we are seeing some downpours and thunderstorms on the radar that developed east of New Jersey and are now moving northeast over Long Island. Look for these downpours and the occasional thunderstorm to continue into this evening. These storms will be heavy rain producers and not of the severe weather (wind hail) variety) though an odd cell could get strong. Some localized flooding is possible in some of the heavier downpours.
SATELLITE
Radars are loading up with showers and some thunderstorms. Once the front passes the steady rain to the west will take over. This will last into this evening and start to end from west to east after 8pm Temperatures topped in the 70s and we will see those temperatures ease with the rain and then again when the front passes and winds turn to the northeast.
WEATHER RADAR
Once the rain ends later this evening skies will clear out and lows will be in the 60s. Wednesday we will see a return to lots of sunshine and very low humidity for this time of year. Dew points will drop to the 40s, much like we saw last week. Highs Wednesday will be in the low to mid 70s. Thursday will be another sunny day with highs 75 to near 80 and dew points again will be in the 40s.
One thing to keep an eye out for on Thursday is a weak low to the south of the North Carolina coast. It could be a bit of a nuisance and send some clouds in with a weak onshore flow. For now we will leave it out of the forecast since the low is forecast to stay weak.
That low is just going to fall apart and gradually we get into a warmer and more humid flow beginning Friday and taking us through the weekend. Humidity will start to go up on Friday but it will still be moderately comfortable with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s, 70s along the shore. Saturday and Sunday will be very warm and very humid. Skies will feature sunshine but watch for a scattered shower or thunderstorm. The chances are low but I though it was worth mentioning a small chance just in case with the dew points rising close to 70. Highs both days should reach the mid 80s inland with 70s at the beaches. It is a summery last weekend of June.
