Long Island Severe Weather Threat
The Storm Prediction Center this morning raised the risk of severe weather over Long Island to “slight risk” from marginal risk. A cold front is approaching and weather models do seem to develop thunderstorms that move across Long Island this afternoon. As we know Long Island always seems to have some sort of boiler plate over it especially in Suffolk County. At this point it is a matter of keeping eyes on the radar and going from there. There should be nothing of consequence through Lunchtime. The risk period grows after 1pm.
Right now we are seeing some thunderstorms move across to the north. This is the big question for weather models in that the first line may not survive and a second line forms later this afternoon and evening. Either way the best approach now is to just keep an eye to the sky if you are out and about. Watch for threatening weather if you are boating or at the shore. Temperatures this afternoon will be in the low to mid 80s with high humidity. Sunday looks to be a much better day with sunshine low humidity and highs in the low to mid 80s.
