Long Island Snow Tonight Slushy Coating to an Inch or Two Possible
Sunday December 11 2022
Latest satellite and radar loops show snow across much of Upstate NY and Western New England. We have an upper low that is diving southeastward tonight and that will enhance the precipitation as well as cool down the bottom of the atmosphere. Initially I thought we might see a change to wet snow, and perhaps leave just a slushy coating in some places but the temperatures are colder this afternoon than advertised. This system is the kind that can produce surprises so I think we could see a slushy coating to an inch or two in most places overnight. As of 3:30pm, no winter weather advisory has been posted. I am putting in the accumulation idea for overnight to cover for that possibility.
Short range models are actually more bullish than a coating to an inch or two but I will wait to see what the radars show this evening and what is happening from the observations to determine whether those higher numbers have a chance of happening.

WEATHER RADAR
Temperatures overnight will cool to near freeizing. This should taper off and end from north to south Monday morning around or before daybreak. Monday clouds should give way to some breaks of sunshine by afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s which should melt away most of whatever falls. Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry and chilly with some sun both days. Highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
