Long Island Thursday Best Day of the Week

Doom & Gloom Friday Into Sunday Morning

Today’s rain is done but the clouds remain this evening. However dry air is filtering in on a north wind and we should see a decrease in clouds overnight. Temperatures will settle in the lower 50s by morning. Then we get to enjoy the best weather day of the week Thursday. High pressure will begin to build south from Eastern Canada. That will be enough to give us a good deal of sunshine. The air overhead isn’t cold . it isn’t warm either. The May sun will do its job tomorrow and highs should reach 65 to 70 degrees. The exception will be shore areas and the east end where a southwest breeze develops and temperatures top in the mid to upper 50s.

Skies will start to cloud up Thursday night as the wind start to turn to the northeast and we begin to get into moisture from low pressure to the west. That low moves across the Ohio Valley. It is being forced to track to our south thanks to the strong high to the north. Rain develops around midday or Friday afternoon. From there it is cloudy rain and raw into much of Saturday. It is what i refer to as gloom and doom.

We will probably see an inch or so of rain spread out over the two day stretch. Once it starts raining, you can expect temperatures to fall into the 50s and stay there. We might even get down to the lower 50s for a stretch on Saturday. The rain should end late Saturday. The gfs is a little faster in ending the rain. As for Sunday we may still have to fight leftover low clouds light rain and/or drizzle early in the day but there is a chance that dry air could move in from the northeast once the low drops far enough south. For now we will say cloudy in the morning and maybe some brightening of skies in the afternoon. We will get a better handle on this end of the forecast in the coming days. One positive to mention is that we are in the low part of the tide cycle which helps to work against any moderate coastal flooding issues.
