Long Island Weekend Rains Lacking
With areas all around Long Island getting some much needed and very beneficial rainfalls, Long Island sat through the enter weekend basically seeing enough rain to barely make the ground wet! There appears to be some sort of boiler plate cover over Long Island as the recent storm total map indicates
Look at all the heavy rains that fell all around Long Island. Places across New Jersey received 6 to 8 inches of rain and a widespread 1 to 4 inches over much of the state. In the Hudson Valley and through much of interior Connecticut anywhere from 1 to 4 inches fell on average. However look at Long Island on the map below. Barely a quarter of an inch at best fell all weekend except for a small area on the South fork on the East End and some areas in Southwest Nassau County. The deficit continues at about 6 inches and is epecially acute in Suffolk County but less so in Nassau.

Radars tonight are not impressive. There are bands of rain to the north so we will just have to see how this holds up during the night. This is probably the last opportunity for rain this week for Long Island as the atmosphere will be drying up over the next few days.
Tuesday look for clouds and an ocean wind with a few breaks of sun. There is the chance for a downpour in the afternoon and evening but they should be few and far between. More sunshine is forecast for Wednesday and warmer temperatures for the rest of the week.
