Long Island Wind Advisory This Evening Tonight Coastal Flooding Continues
The next storm system is headed our way but this one is a bit different from the nor’easter of a few days ago. The onshore flow continues and that has lead to some coastal flooding the last few days. It has gotten a bit more pronounced with the onshore flow persisting all week. Coastal Flood Advisories have been up and will probably remain up with the emphasis on Southwest Suffolk and Nassau County. Minor to areas of moderate coastal flooding are likely at high tide.
This low is tracking mostly to our west and it is pushing into a strong high in Southeastern Canada. The result is a tightening of the pressure gradient and wind advisories are posted for ;ate this afternoon and tonight. Southeast to east winds will pick up to 20 to 30 mph and we could see higher gusts in the range of 40 to 50 mph.
SATELLITE
In the meantime we are clouding up this afternoon and rain which on the regional radar is down to the south in Maryland Delaware and Virginia is moving northward. The bulk of the heavier rain this evening and tonight will probably go to the west but we will still put down some rain overnight. Flash flooding is not expected this time around. Temperatures today will likely remain in the 50s and hold there tonight.
WEATHER RADAR
Once the first round of rain goes by a front will be stalled along the coast and a second wave develops on the front. This will bring another round of rain during Saturday especially in the afternoon and evening. This area of rain will likely be heavier than the first. Temperatures Saturday will be in the 60s.
Once that wave goes by, winds will turn northwest on Sunday and it will bring very slow improvement though I expect Sunday start cloudy but it could go partly sunny by afternoon. Highs will be in the 60s. Next week begins dry and a series of cold fronts will be taking us on a stair step decline temperature wise.
