Long Island Winds Drop As Hermine Weakens
Long Island Winds Drop As Hermine Weakens
Satellte loops this afternoon show Hermine plodding westward just south of the the south shore of Long Island. While the low level circulation is well defined, it is a weakening cyclone now and we have see evidence of that weakening with winds across Central and Eastern Long Island much lower than they were last night when they were gusting to 50 mph from Riverhead east.

Gale force gusts were reported as far west as New York City. Other than a few remaining bands of rain near the center much of the rain is done with. If a band or two of rain moves through it should be on the light side and not last for too long.
The other thing to notice on the satellite loop is that skies are clear just to the west of Long Island. Once Hermine disappears later Wednesday, those clear skies move in here for the rest of the week and so do the hot temperatures that go with it. Highs will reach 90 in some places both Thursday and Friday.
You can see the center of Hermine clearly on the radar loop with a large area of rain around the center of circulation in the ocean. That rain is going to stay offshore for the most part. On the northern fringe you can see a spiral band coming in from off the ocean into Suffolk County. So far not much has made it into Nassau County.
On Wednesday the issue will be leftover clouds but there could be some sun in the mix especially over western areas of Long Island. As for the beaches the surf will remain rough probably into Friday.
