Tropical Storm Force Gusts Continue Tuesday
Some Rain But Nothing Substantial
Hermine Won’t Go Away Until Wednesday Night
Eastern Long Island has been experiencing tropical storm force gusts since early Monday evening and those winds are forecast to spread westward into the west parts of Suffolk County overnight into Tuesday Evening. Hermine is tracking to the west and the center is forecast to basically drift about 50-75 miles south of the South Shore of Long Island before finally disappating Wednesday night.
After a few bands of rain moved through Eastern Areas the radar has quieted down some. Both the HRRR other models want to bring through one solid band of rain through Tuesday afternoon.
Now I want to tell you that my confidence in this model is very low. The NAM model is about the same and the GFS model is also about the same. Rainfall amounts if you want to believe it are between 1/2 inch and an inch (big deal DUH!)
By 8pm Tuesday Hermine is east of Atlantic City somewhere as a slowly weakening non tropical cyclone. By early Thursday it is gone and summer returns to Long Island with Sunshine and temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 for both Thursday & Friday. If this rain doesn’t materialize, there is nothing of consequence rain wise through the weekend other than an isolated shower or thunderstorm Friday and again late Sunday as 2 weak cold fronts push on through.
