Major Storm Leaves Long Island Floods Power Outages
Major Storm Leaves Long Island Floods Power Outages
Yesterday’s major storm continues to move its way northward and into Southeastern Canada. Heavy rains island wide of 2 to 5 inches and wind gusts over 60 mph at times created road flooding along with down power lines and power outages. This was the biggest storm to impact the Northeast and Northern Middle Atlantic states probably in the last year. The dry weather of prior 6 weeks was pretty much wiped out. In fact for Long Island rainfall this week totaled 5 to 8 inches with the front a few days before producing 2 to 3 inch rains island wide. It was the wettest week of weather for the year!
Weather conditions continue to slowly improve. Winds are still rather gusty but they will ease slowly during the overnight and into Tuesday. We at least saw some sunshine this afternoon and skies will clear out tonight with lows in the low to mid 40s. Radar shows showers well north and east and we should be dry through the daytime Wednesday.
Tuesday and Wednesday should feature some sunshine both days with highs in the 50s. However Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will be quite chilly with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s but if winds drop off some areas in Suffolk County especially in the pine barrens could see their first frosts of the season.
WEDNESDAY MORNING FORECAST LOWS
Some clouds will arrive later Wednesday as warmer air returns. Watch for a shower Wednesday night. Thursday looks warmer with some sun and the chance for a passing shower with highs reaching the mid 60s. We could get to 70 on Friday before a cold front passes through and sets us up for cooler weather this coming weekend. No major storms are on the table at least for the next 10 days.
