Hurricane Force Wind Gusts Flood Warnings Major Storm
Rain has been front and center so far on Long Island but after 8pm you can add the wind to this. Hurricane force wind gusts are likely. A major storm has developed and is off the Delaware coast this evening. It has absorbed Tropical Storm Philippe to the south and that has juiced up this system even more. Stong winds will begin shortly and we will see hurricane force wind gusts. Below are the HRRR wind forecasts for 10pm & Midnight. Notice Long Island is shaded in blue showing winds gusting to 55 knots or higher.
The satellite loop shows the well developed storm moving northward and the radars are still absolutely loaded with rain as that will continue very heavy at times until around Midnight or so.
Flood Warnings are in effect for Nassau and Western Suffolk County and will likely continue into the early morning hours.

* At 547 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated additional heavy rain
approaching from the south that will cause flooding. Up to two
inches of rain have already fallen. An additional one to two
inches is possible across the warning area. This additional rain
will likely result in urban and poor drainage flooding across much
of the region.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
