Merry Christmas to All On a Warm Winter Day for Long Island, Rain Wednesday
Merry Christmas to everyone on Long Island where we have a warm Christmas Day which is contrast to last year’s very cold weather. We have a day where skies will be mostly cloudy with the occasional brightening of skies or even a break or two of sun possible. No rain (or snow obviously) is forecast as radars are nice and quiet and temperatures this afternoon will be in the warm upper 40s and lower 50s.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
A warm air mass is overhead thanks to a strong high offshore and that means that tonight’s lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with clouds around as well as some patchy arears of fog. Low pressure in the Plains is producing heavy snow in parts of Nebraska and South Dakota and heavy rains that extend from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley to the South and Southeast US.
The lead band of rain will weaken as the front heads east so we don’t expect any rain Tuesday unless an odd shower develops in the southerly flow. Tuesday highs will again be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Tuesday night and Wednesday as a new low forms on the front along the Mid Atlantic coast, rain will develop and spread northward and we will see rain overspread Long Island Tuesday night and Wednesday. Highs Wednesday will be into the 50s. The low will head to the northeast and the rain should end Wednesday evening. Thursday we see leftover clouds with highs into the lower 50s. We will begin to gradually step down in temperatures by Friday when we will be in the 40s. It should turn colder over the weekend. Whether we get another round of rain Friday will depend on whether another offshore low forms but for now we will leave it just as a cloudy Thursday night and Friday and revisit the rain chances in the coming days. Merry Christmas to all and enjoy the holiday!
