MODELS CONTINUE SOUTHERN TREND FOR SUNDAY

Good evening! I will get to the latest on Sunday in a moment. Let’s begin with the colder air on the way.

So we got some sunshine back today but the wind has been howling at times. Gusts of 30+ mph have been felt all over the area, especially this morning. With temperatures in the 40s, it hasn’t felt that bad. But as they gradually fall tonight, any wind at all will make it feel frigid! Lows in the 20s tonight will feel like the teens, and things don’t get much better tomorrow. Afternoon highs will be about 10° lower than they were today, and with that same gusty northwest breeze, it will feel like 20s.

Winds will ease on Friday but it will be truly cold, with highs struggling to reach 30°! The same goes for Saturday. Each day will feature more sun than clouds.

Clouds will quickly increase on Saturday night, and snow is possible Sunday depending on what our friend Mr. Storm decides to do. Just about all of the models have trended the system further south over the last several runs, with a glancing blow at best that would bring light snow to Long island and only minor accumulations.

High pressure to the north remains strong. But the energy for this storm is still out in the Pacific Ocean, and the models may be having a hard time ingesting that data with so many more variables. Things should become clear by tomorrow and at the latest Friday. A shift in the storm track of a mere 50 miles would bring Long Island into some heavier snow. And there is now some indication that this close shave could last into Monday morning, which could cause even more problems.

So we are still in a holding pattern; a ‘wait-and-see” approach over the next 24-48 hours. Stay tuned.   –Geoff
