Some Heavy Downpours On Radar
Rain from coastal New Jersey is heading north northeastward and there are embedded heavier thunderstorms in the mix. The area is now spreading into to Southwestern Nassau County back to New York City and it will be raining for the evening commute with some heavier downpours likely. There are a few thunderstorms out in the ocean and assuming they hold together there could be some rumbles of thunder when this area moves through.
Rainfall amounts could exceed half an inch in some heavier downpours.
With regards to the approaching high tides a COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect. Here is the statement from the National Weather Service.
...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING POSSIBLE AROUND HIGH TIDE... * LOCATIONS...IMMEDIATE COAST OF SOUTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT... NORTHWESTERN LONG ISLAND AND SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER COUNTY. * TIDAL DEPARTURES...AROUND 0.5 TO 1 FT ABOVE ASTRONOMICAL TIDES. * TIMING...AROUND HIGH TIDE THIS EVENING. * IMPACTS...TIDE LEVELS MAY APPROACH...OR JUST EXCEED THE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING THRESHOLD AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE. THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO LIFE AND ANY IMPACT ON PROPERTY IS MINIMAL.
