Raw Rainy Late Spring Conditions Next Several Days
Long Island in the springtime is no picnic by any stretch of the imagination. We have see an abundance of days this spring particularly in the last 5 weeks of overcast skies, an onshore wind and occasional rain. The latest stretch will take us into Wednesday at least. Tonight we are looking at two interacting systems. One is rotating over Lake Ontario at the moment. The other is the system you see rotating in Texas that is lifting up tropical moisture northward along the East Coast. Right now we lie in between the two systems with a steady band of rain just offshore and showers and thunderstorms with the upper air storm to the north. Combine that with a northeast wind and you have the makings for gloomy conditions overnight and again on Tuesday. We will see some rain or drizzle from time to time through Tuesday night. It doesn’t rain all the time nor does it rain everywhere at the same time. Just bear in mind that these conditions will last into early Wednesday and while this is going on temperatures will settle into the 50s to near 60 and just stay there.

As far as genuine improvement there is a chance that drier air from New England could move in as early as late Wednesday but we may have to wait until at least Thursday or possible Friday before it gets better. The good news is that the pattern is changing for Long Island and we could have some beach weather late this coming weekend and early next week as the pattern in the Northeast turns very warm.
