Long Island is about to have one more very warm to hot day before some big changes take place. We are going to see some 90 degree readings today over much of Nassau and at least the Northwest quarter of Suffolk County today with plenty of sunshine once we get rid of the morning low clouds.
If you are headed for the South Shore beaches anywhere on Long Island today beware the rip currents because they will be strong thanks to building ocean seas and a south south west wind later this afternoon into tonight.

PIERS. TALK TO LIFEGUARDS AND BEACH OFFICIALS TO LEARN ABOUT ANY
SURF HAZARDS AND HEED THEIR ADVICE. PAY ATTENTION TO FLAGS AND
POSTED SIGNS AND SWIM IN LIFE GUARDED AREAS.
SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT…RELAX AND
FLOAT…AND DO NOT SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT. IF ABLE…SWIM IN A
DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE…FACE THE
SHORE AND CALL OR WAVE FOR HELP.
The satellite loop this moring shows clouds with showers and thunderstorms well to the west so if any thunderstorms occur they will be tonight and likely after 8 or 9pm so until then you are pretty much free and clear to do anything outdoors. While there is a severe weather risk to the west of Long Island this looks to be another case where the thunderstorms are likely to weaken or fall apart before they get here so I don’t think we have a severe weather issue to be concerned with.
The front is going to take its time dropping southward on Wednesday so there may be some leftover clouds around early in the day but by noon we should be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 80s.
Thursday will be the first of at least 3 or 4 days of sunshine dry and cool conditions with most highs in the 70s by day and we will be down in the mid 50s to lower 60s at night. High pressure builds south from Eastern Canada putting us in a cool north northeast flow. We could extend this dry period through the weekend as long as the wind doesn’t turn more easterly.
