Scattered Showers Diminish This Evening, Cool Night

Quiet Days Ahead For Long Island

Cool unstable air is over Long Island again this evening and we have seen where we started the day with sun and then went to clouds. A weak upper trough is moving southeast from Upstate NY and will move to the east later this evening. Until then we see scattered showers on the radar and they should start to die off once we pass sunset. Temperatures today struggled to get out of the 50s. We will see skies clear out late tonight with most lows by morning in the 40s.

You can see the scattered showers streaming southeastward on the regional and local radars. They are in narrow bands and not everyone sees them this evening. Movement of the echoes are to the southeast and after dark they die off.

Tuesday brings a more stable atmosphere. There will be sunshine and clouds but there should be more sun than clouds and no showers are in the forecast. High temperatures will head back to a range of 60 to 65. Wednesday looks very good with lots of sunshine and a west wind. Highs will be 65 to near 70.

The next cold front approaches Thursday but it should not be a problem dayside. Look for sunshine and some arriving clouds in the afternoon. Highs should reach the low 70s. This front appears to be weak and I’m not expecting much from it as it goes by. Slightly cooler weather will follow Friday and into the weekend. Another front will approach late Sunday but here too, the front looks to be weak and it could pass through dry. No major storms are on the horizon and the tropics have gone dead for now.
