Snow Long Island 2-3 Inches Overnight

I am making no changes to my original forecast for Long Island. Snow will overspread Long Island between 9pm and midnight and last a little past daybreak on Friday. It should gradually end from west to east during the morning and we will probably see some sunshine in the afternoon.

This is going to be a light snowfall on the order of 2 to 3 inches. Some spots will get less like Western Nassau County which could see some areas under 2 inches while over the east end a few pockets of 4 inches are not out the question. Below are the National Weather Service snowfall forecast maps for Long Island and nearby areas.

Once this system moves out another storm will be developing along the southeast coast and moving northeastward on Saturday. Latest model runs are further west and back some snow into Long Island on Saturday. There is potential for additional accumulation from this system especially over Central and Eastern Suffolk County.

With systems like these there will a sharp cutoff between no snow to 3 inches to 6 inches or more and it could be over a matter of miles. It is conceivable that Western Nassau County gets as little as a coating from this or a bit more while the East End gets 4 to 6 inches or more. It is a tough call at this point as models have and continue to be highly volatile. We tend to think that Long Island will see some snow from this on Saturday. It will also be very cold with a gusty wind and temperatures probably in the low 20s if the snow materializes. You can read more about this on my latest JOESTRADAMUS post.
