Winter Storm Watch is posted for Suffolk County on Long Island mainly east of the William Floyd Parkway. Latest weather models show the storm continuing to nudge to the west. If this trend holds it would put Long Island at risk for a heavy snow accumulation especially over the eastern half of the island. National Weather Service snow forecast maps below have also gone higher with snow amounts though they are a bit more aggressive than mine.

The European weather model took a sizable jog to the west this afternoon which probably leans heavily in raising the amounts. Snow is likely to develop around mid morning Saturday and last into Saturday night. It will be windy with temperatures only in the low 20s during this snow event which will mean a powdery snow but roads will be icy and travel will become difficult especially as you go east. This storm does have the potential to shift a little to the west or east and that will of course impact amounts. I think there is a greater risk of a shift to the west so I am covering for that possibility.

Windy and very cold conditions will be with us on Sunday as weather conditions improve with some sunshine. Temperatures Sunday will be just in the low to mid 20s and wind chills will make it feel like it is in the teens. Sunday night lows will bottom in the low teens to near 10. Cold air will be with us through Monday and then a warm up begins on Tuesday which will take us into the 50s by the middle and latter part of next week.
