Thunderstorm Threat Tonight But???
HRRR Model Says No
Long Islanders know that a thunderstorm threat does not necessarily mean they survive. Right now we have pleasant conditions on Long Island with most temperatures in the 70s and a nice ocean wind. You can see the narrow band of clouds to the west across Ohio and Western New York. There isn’t much in the way of showers and thunderstorms ahead of it at the moment as the radar loops below indicate.
The threat time is between 4am and 6am when the front move through. Most models show a narrow line of showers and thunderstorms that would move quickly through. Nothing severe is forecast. However the HRRR model has the showers and thunderstorms passing to the north of Long Island.

The HRRR model would have it all moving to the north crossing Connecticut. Honestly I can’t leave a shower or thunderstorm out of the forecast but don’t be surprised if either nothing happens, or a clap of thunder wakes you up out of a sound sleep.
Once this area moves by and the front is offshore we will quickly go mostly sunny with highs in the middle 80s with lowering humidity. Nice weather will be with us on Wednesday with lots of sunshine and highs in the low to middle 80s. Then another front will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms again on Thursday.
