Warm Air Arrives Colder Tuesday Through The Weekend
The warm front is passing to the north of Long Island this evening. We have seen light rain & drizzle all day but that has tapered off. Temperatures have risen into the 60s. The satellite loop shows a cold front to the west and that will arrive on Monday with showers and a possible thunderstorm Monday afternoon & evening. Temperatures will make a run toward 70 degrees for the only time this week.
With the next cold front dropping southward 2 waves of low pressure will be moving along it this week. Each one will pull down chilly air with the one on Thursday pulling in cold air from Canada for Friday and into the weekend. The coldest air will be Saturday morning when lows will be close to freezing island wide for the first time this autumn season.
The next chance for significant rain may come later next Sunday as low pressure heads into the Ohio Valley and redevelops along the coast. The cold high to the northeast will probably hold stronger than models suggest indicating a cold rain and temperatures in the 40s for next Sunday.
