Wind Advisory Long Island Rain Tonight Near Record Highs Wednesday
Snow Ice Rain Thursday Night Friday
Wind advisory is now posted for Long Island tonight as the gradient tightens up Winds will gust 30 to 40 mph at times from the southwest until a weather front passes later tonight. Rain is on the local and regional radars this evening and this rain will continue until after midnight at which point it will pull away to the northeast. It should be all gone by daybreak. Temperatures overnight will hold in the mid 40s to around 50 degrees. Rainfall amounts will be a quarter to a half inch.

Wednesday we will see clouds and some breaks of sunshine with a second front coming through in the afternoon. I’m going to leave the chance for a shower out of the forecast for now and revisit that idea in the morning. Temperatures however have no where to go but up and highs will reach the mid to upper 50s over the east end and low to mid 60s elsewhere on Long Island
The warm weather is a one day wonder because cold air returns Wednesday night as skies clear. Lows will be in the mid 20s to around 30. Thursday we are going to cloud up as the next storm system heads our way. Highs will be in the middle 30s. Then we will see this next low head northeast through the Ohio Valley and into West Virginia and attempt to redevelop off the Delaware coast Thursday night into Friday morning.
The issue of how important the cold air to the north remains on the table but we are noticing that precipitation comes in a little faster so we are looking for snow to develop Thursday night and it the cold air holds on a few inches of snow are possible by daybreak Friday. Then we will see a change to sleet and possibly some freezing rain especially north of the LIE in Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County. Ultimately it will end as rain around midday as the low pulls away. An icy mess is likely away from the immediate south shore and especially north of the LIE. Temperatures will only rise to the middle 30s at best and some places will struggle to get there. Weather conditions improve Friday night and Saturday looks nice but cold with highs just into the 30s. Sunday we could see another system head our way as even colder air comes down out of Canada. We usually only take these things one at a time so we will likely not give that a serious look until we get this one figured out.
