Wind Advisory Long Island Stormy Monday Ahead

We got through the entire day with sunshine and just in the last few hours of the afternoon did some high clouds arrive. However weather conditions will deteriorate as clouds increase overnight. No rain is forecast until daybreak when we will see moderate to heavy rain move northward from the Middle Atlantic states and then up into Southeastern New England.

As we roll through this evening you will start to see rain develop over North Carolina and eventually that rain moves up into Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. It reaches Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania during the early morning hours before daybreak. NYC, Northern New Jersey and Long Island will see rain arrive shortly after 7 or 8am and then on to Southern and Southeastern New England later in the morning.

The peak of activity will  be around midday to early afternoon when we see heavy rains and thunderstorms likely. In fact the Storm Prediction storm free

The Storm Prediction Center has Long Island in a marginal risk for severe weather. Wind Advisories are posted for Long Island with gusts to 50 mph or more expect during Monday afternoon and evening.

Watching the NAM model for Monday it reflects what to expect rather well. Notice the peak of rain and convection into the afternoon, about 1 to 2pm and then it starts to wind down and shift eastward. It will be a fast 6 to 8 hours of rain leaving up to 2 inches in spots depending on thunderstorms.

Temperatures tonight won’t drop far, in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Monday highs will reach the lower 60s by evening and then settle in the 50s overnight. Tuesday will be blustery and colder with variable clouds and the risk for a passing shower. Highs will be just in the 40s. We will see weather conditions improve slowly Wednesday through Friday but there may be another storm system to deal with next weekend.
