There is a lot going on tonight. We have energy moving northeast off the Southern New England coast which actually prevents Friday’s storm system from being a big deal. Instead for Long Island we will be on the northern edge of the rain shield. Sometimes these things are very tricky when they are coming in from the east so we will have to watch the radar carefully overnight. For now we don’t expect anything more than a passing shower or just some drizzle through much of tonight. Toward daybreak rain will be coming in from the east. It might cut Suffolk County in half with regards to where the eastern side of the rain shield will be. It is a very tough forecast call.
Coastal Storm Moving In Radar Loops
Here is the NAM Model forecast for Thursday morning 10am. The surface low is actually tracking northwestward from off the ocean which is rather unusual. It is rotating around the strong upper air storm in Eastern Virginia. This is the sort of thing that happens when tropical systems come up the east coast in the late summer and fall.
The NAM model has the rain shield further north and east with the surface low coming onshore near Sandy Hook. Now with regards to coastal flooding, here are the tide times and tide heights.
