Colder Temperatures Overnight Through Sunday Morning
Cold air this winter over Long Island has been fleeting. When it has gotten cold it has only lasted a few days or so. Much of January was mild especially the second half. In character with the winter so far we have another shot of colder air moving in that will last a few days with temperatures below average Friday & Saturday and then back to near average on Sunday. There are no storms to worry about for Long Island this weekend and the weather is going to calm probably through Monday of next week. The satellite shows some clouds around this evening but they should break up and dry out as skies clear overnight and temperatures head into the lower 20s by morning. There will be a bit of a breeze which will make it feel a bit colder.
Local radar shows some scattered snow showers but they should disappear before too long. There are no snow issues through Sunday unless a stray snow shower shows up.
Friday and Saturday highs will be in the low to mid 30s and Saturday and Sunday morning will be in the upper teens to lower 20s for lows. Sunday we have a weak weather system going to our north but other than clouds there is nothing to worry about. Highs will reach the lower 40s.
Next week we will be watching a major storm heading for the Great Lakes which will bring rain and eventually wind and temperatures into the 50s. We will have to watch to see if this evolves into a big wind event here as some models are showing the potential for 40 to 50 mph wind gusts Wednesday ahead of a cold front.
