Hurricane Force Wind Warning Coast High Wind Warning Inland Coastal Flood Watch For High Tides Monday
We have a Hurricane Force Wind Warning for the Coastal Waters off the South Shore of Long Island. On land it is a High Wind Warning. I think the wind will wind up being the biggest issue regaring this noreaster. Coastal Flood Watch is up for tide running 2 to 3 feet above normal at high tide Monday and this will cause moderate coastal flooding. The moon cycle is in between the full and new moon so this should mitigate the coastal flooding issue somewhat but not completely. Rainfall of a couple of inches is possible and at least that will chip away at the drought a bit more.
There are no issues this evening or for the overnight for the most part other than the wind which will be picking up late tonight to Gale Force by morning. The satellite loop shows the storm in the upper atmosphere with that impressive swirl moving across the Gulf states. This produced widespread severe weather across the south today and is a signature of how strong this system is at the moment.
Weather condtions will deteriorate during Monday with increase winds to 30 to 50 mph with gusts over 70 mph possible along the coast. Rains will overspread Long Island during the afternoon and continue into Tuesday morning. Not much in the way of rain is forecast tonight or for the first part of Monday as radars locally are still relatively quiet at the moment.
