Heavy Rains 1 to 2 Inches Forecast Island Wide
The National Weather Service has placed Long Island under a Flash Flood Watch for tonight and Friday. This looks to be an island wide rainfall event for the first time in many weeks. The rainfall deficit on Long Island is running at half a foot or more in many areas in Suffolk County. It is a little less in Nassau. What is more important here is that this is a 12 hour event with the main shot of raining arriving around or a little after midnight and lasting into midday on Friday. 1 to 2 inches is forecast with some locally higher amounts possible.

Here is what you can expect. Up until midnight there shouldn’t be much other than a pop up shower. Then rain spreads in from the west and becomes heavy at times overnight into Friday morning. The rain should taper off around noon or so from west to east with some residual downpours in the afternoon. Saturday looks dry. Sunday we could see more rain.
