Flooding Possible For Long Island 2 Inch Plus Rains Possible
Flooding Possible For Long Island 2 Inch Plus Rains Possible
There are no major changes in the forecast outlook for Long Island. Gale Warnings are up for the coast as it will get rather gusty later Saturday and Saturday night into Sunday. This is going to be a tight compact little noreaster that moves along the New Jersey Coast on Saturday and then south of Long Island Saturday night. The National Weather Service is forecasting 2 to 3 inches of rain and I have no issue with that forecast at all. Weather models have all been rather consistent with this idea. The heaviest rain will fall late Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. Local flooding issues are likely in the usual suspect spots.
The latest satellite loop shows the coastal storm and upper air storm system off the New England coast beginning to move eastward allowing room for the system behind it in the Tennessee Valley to move east. No rain is forecast tonight and the lead area of rain will arrive in Western Nassau County by 8am.
The regional radar shows rain building to the south but nothing is close at the moment and the local radars are quiet. If you have plans this evening go right ahead with them with no issues other than the cool temperatures in the 50s.
The big question for Sunday is when the rain ends. It should end in Nassau before daybreak but it might go on in Suffolk County particularly on the east end until about midday. Weather conditions will improve after that slowly though it will be breezy and there could be a few late day scattered showers. Dry air follows next week with sunshine on Monday and highs in the 60s to near 70 and we could see low 70s on Tuesday. Even warmer air follows later in the week though the afternoon sea breeze may rear its head from time to time.
