Fred Remnants Will Pass West of Long Island Humid Muggy All Week Long
We have been watching Tropical Storm Fred make landfall with 65 mph winds. Heavy rains are now spreading inland into Georgia. Fred will weaken now to a a remnant low and take a track up the Appalachians before turning to the northeast. The bulk of the rainfall from Fred will be to our west. This is not to say we won’t see showers or downpours at some point this week. We will indeed in this developing tropical air mass that takes over for the rest of the week. However heavier rains will stay mainly west in Western New Jersey and Pennsylvania where rainfall amounts will reach several inches. Long Island should see far less than that.

The tropical moisture from Fred is visible on the satellite view and we also have a warm front moving northward. Showers and some heavy downpours are across Virginia and Maryland. Most of those will wind up passing by to our west so overnight it is just clouds around and turning more humid with lows in the 60s to near 70.
Tuesday we will see lots of clouds around. The sun will attempt to break through but it will be somewhat self destructive as the daytime heating will bubble up more clouds. We will allow for an isolated shower or downpour but most the initial shot of downpours Tuesday pass to our west. Highs Tuesday will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Later Tuesday night into Wednesday we could see some downpours as Fred’s remnants make they way through the Northern Mid Atlantic and Northeast. As the rainfall forecast map shows, Long Island rainfall forecast amounts into Thursday morning are all under a half inch with heavier rain well to the west. Wednesday highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Fred’s remnants by this time will be long gone but the tropical flow continues. Thursday and Friday will be very humid and we will throw in the chance for scattered downpours. In between it will be cloudy to partly sunny with highs into the 80s both days.
