Heavy Snow Long Island 1 Foot Plus
Long Island continues to get hammered with heavy snow this afternoon falling at rates of uHeavy Snow Long Island 1 Foot Plus to 2 inches per hour. Visibility is down to near zero in some places and travel has been extremely difficult. Most of Long Island has at least 4 inches on the ground and some areas to the east have 4 to 6 inches and climbing. When it is all said and done up to a foot or more will have accumulated in some areas and over the East End on the Twin Forks, some amounts approaching 18 inches are possible. The latest National Weather Service snow forecast maps are below.

Radars are showing the back edge of the green echos indicating moderate to heavy snow still to the west in New Jersey so you can expect the heavy snows to continue at least into the evening hours before tapering off and ending from west to east between 10pm and midnight.
In addition to the heavy snow temperatures are in the low 20s and we will see those temperatures drop to the low teens tonight on a strengthening north northwest wind. This will being wind chills down below zero by Sunday morning. Sunday will be windy and bitter cold with some sunshine but some snow showers are still possible. Highs may barely make it back into the lower 20s. Cold weather continues on Monday.
