Elevated Fire Risk Due to Dry Conditions
One thing that is evident on the satellite loop is that we are sitting in the middle of another dry air mass overhead which means lots of blue skies and sunshine for today however it is a bone dry air mass. Humidity levels will drop under 30 percent this afternoon so the risk for brush fires is high. The National Weather Service has indicated that with Long Island under an elevated risk for fires.
Now as we move through this afternoon highs will reach the mid and upper 60s but there will be a sea breeze late in the day across Central and Eastern Suffolk County and then gradually working its way inland into Nassau and Northwest Suffolk. So look for temperatures to cool off as usual late in the day into the 50s and even some upper 40s along exposed coastal locations.
Monday looks very warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s with partly sunny skies. Tuesday we will see a strong cold front move through with a period of rain and falling temperatures from the 60s and low 70s in the morning to the 40s by late afternoon.
Rainfall amounts for Tuesday look to be on the order of up to a half an inch which would be very beneficial.
