Long Island Cloudy Rainy Day Larry Passes Well Offshore

Rough Surf Rip Currents Through Friday

Long Island is sitting right along a frontal boundary that lies north south from Maine to Florida. It is going to take all day for a wave to develop on the front and move northeast. That is going to leave Long Island in waves of rain all day long and lasting into tonight. This is not a wave that is filled with tropical moisture nor do we have remnants of any hurricane or tropical storm involved. What we do have is a typical non tropical system that will produce up to a couple of inches of rain over Eastern Long Island and 1 to 2 inches everywhere else. Some flooding of the usual suspects spots are likely in heavier rains but it should be manageable.

Radars are fairly busy with waves of rain moving from southwest to northeast. The regional radar shows that rain extending south into Delaware and Eastern Virginia so that pretty much makes it an all day issue here.

Thanks to clouds and rain temperatures today won’t be going anywhere with highs just into the 70s and while it is raining we may settle back into the 60s. The wave of low pressure moves to the Northeast and the rain should finally end sometime around or just after midnight. Skies will clear by morning with lows in the upper 50s to near 60.

One of the very good things about this time of year is that we can get into long stretches of dry weather which quite frankly would be most welcomed considering how much rain we have seen lately. That is where we are beginning Friday and lasting through next Tuesday. This may actually be a good weekend for the Long Island beaches. Friday kicks it off with lots of sun but it will be cool with highs just into the lower 70s. Then we trend higher over the weekend. Sunshine Saturday will take highs to the mid to upper 70s. Sunday we will see sun and it will be a little more humid but not terrible. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Monday and Tuesday will be warm with highs into the 80s. No rain is forecast until maybe next Wednesday with the next cold front. If you are heading for the beaches Friday or Saturday there will be rough surf and rip currents leftover from Hurricane Larry.
