First off for this evening we are dealing with showers on the radar and we will see the threat for some rain probably until midnight. Radar shows an upper air disturbance overhead and you can see the clouds on the satellite loop covering Long Island. There was some drying today from the northeast but we need to work this disturbance through to get some improvement on Saturday.
For Saturday we think we can be optimistic and go for a mix of sun and clouds. Dry will come down from New England and that should allow for at least a few hours of in and out sun. Later in the day clouds come in and rain will be here for Sunday. It will be a damp and dismal day with an ocean wind and temperatures just in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
Rainfall forecast for Long Island Sunday looks like a solid three quarters of an inch for most places. This is consistent with the NAM model rainfall forecast below.
Next week does not look very good with more chances for rain. Long range Euro model and GFS model have a strong system for the second half of the week but models differ in how it all evolves. Here is the latest Euro model discussion and the latest GFS discussion.
