Long Island Dense Fog Issues
The biggest story on Long Island after the morning rain has been the dense fog that has been draping the north and south shore and the eastern half of Suffolk County all day long. Visibility has been down to near zero and the fog covered the shore areas west of Riverhead all day long though it did not stop people from spending some time on the beaches. This evening we still have the fog. We also have showers and thunderstorms well north and west of Long Island coming out of Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley. There is doubt that these storms will survive but the cold front that is causing this should help to start the clearing process later tonight.

Temperatures remain in the 60s especially as you go east. Unfortunately visibility reports on the map are limited at the moment but we know from observations that some areas are reporting visibility near zero so be cautious on your drive tonight if you are either east or along shore areas.

It does get better on Tuesday with partly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 80s. There may still be some leftover clouds and fog in Eastern Long Island around daybreak but it should go mostly sunny before too long. Lots of sunshine is forecast for Wednesday with an ocean wind and highs in the 70s.
