With lots of sunshine and not much of a south wind yet, temperatures on Long Island have reached 90 along many north shore areas. There is a little bit of an ocean wind south of Sunrise Highway and that should start to work its way northward this afternoon and stop the temperature rise at least.

With regards to the radars they are quiet and I don’t think there will be any pop up showers late this afternoon or evening. Clouds might start to come this evening but other than that, sunshine continues this afternoon.

As far as Friday and the weekend are concerned I think the best approach is that we will continue with a mix of sun and clouds each day, Saturday through Monday. I think the ocean wind will play a bigger role and that should shade temperatures downward somewhat over the next few days. However highs should make it into the 80s each day though it will be cooler as you go east into Suffolk County and the East End where it might stay in the 70s. There is the chance for a shower or thunderstorm each late afternoon and evening. It looks like backdoor front issues will be minimal and other than clouds from that, we should be in good shape overall. It won’t be absolutely picture perfect but it will be okay through Monday.
The tropics are starting early as the satellite loop above you can see a low developing east of the Bahamas and the National Hurricane Center has raised the probability of a tropical depression developing to 70 percent. We have more on this here.
