Long Island Morning Commute Extra Time Required
The Long Island morning rush hour commute is almost always a religious experience. Tuesday morning’s commute could require and extra amount of heavenly patience as we have a storm lifting northeast to the Great Lakes with a warm front coming up from the south. A strong surge of moisture is moving up the coast tonight as shown on the satellite and radar loops below. Rain is likely to develop on Long Island in western areas a little after midnight with heavy rains during the hours before and just after sunrise. We are going to get a fast inch to an inch and a half along with some lightning and thunder thrown into the mix. The ground is saturated from the rains of the last couple of weeks including last Friday’s 2 inch rainfall. Local flooding is likely in the usual suspect spots.
Radars to the south are beginning to load up fairly quickly. Once the first round of rain is done tomorrow morning there may be a break before we see more downpours around Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s tonight and rise through the 50s to near 60 on Tuesday. Wednesday looks dry with some sunshine but yet another storm will bring more heavy rains along with strong southeast winds on Thursday into Friday. Longer term the weekend looks dry and a warm up toward 70 is possible early next week.
