Long Island Weather Beautiful Through Thursday

More Rain Friday

We are enjoying a well deserved beautiful day of weather after 4 days of gloom. The satellite loop shows three storm systems. 2 of them stand out in obvious fashion. We have the strong gale center out in the Atlantic and the storm center now in Kansas that is headed our way on Friday. Yesterday’s low is off the coast of Nova Scotia moving away to the east. We are in between them all in high pressure and nice dry air. Temperatures are responding to the strong sun and are in the 50s everywhere.

Skies will be clear tonight with most lows in the 30s and cold spots away from the coast will settle in the upper 20s. Thursday will be another winner with lots of sunshine and highs in the low to middle 50s.

Clouds from the Kansas storm will move in Thursday night and we will see rain develop along with a wind from the northeast. With high pressure to the north it means temperatures only in the 40s and possibly only in the upper 30s and lower 40s once the rain gets underway.

great weather

Friday night into Saturday morning as the low moves off the Maryland coast, cold air will settle over a good chunk of New England and areas from the Middle Hudson Valley east to Northern Connecticut northward into Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire will see significant wet snow and sleet. I would not be at all surprised to see 1 foot plus amounts in some areas. It will not be cold enough for our area for any snow or sleet issues so it is a cold rain for Friday night into Saturday. Rainfall amounts will be in the 1 to 2 inch range. It should move out Saturday morning and weather conditions could improve Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks good with sunshine and highs in the 50s. We will discuss the New England snow in greater detail later today.
