Long Island Onshore Flow Curse Weekend Cool

Sunday Ocean Winds 50s Shower Chance Tuesday

Long Island in the spring is a miserable time of year especially through mid May. The cold ocean is to the east. Warm air to the west is elusive as the ocean kicks in with that easterly flow and that is what we are looking at this weekend specifically Sunday. Until then we have clear skies on the satellite this evening. There are some clouds to the south with a little bit of shower activity showing up from Southwest Pennsylvania southeast to the Virginia coast but none of that is coming here. Skies tonight should be at least partially clear with lows mostly in the low to mid 40s.

Saturday will likely be the warmer of the two weekend days as we will have sunshine and that should take temperatures up to the upper 50s and lower 60s. The problem starts Saturday night as high pressure parks itself near Cape Cod turning winds to the east. That will bring in clouds Saturday night and there is a slight chance for a little light rain or drizzle. It is just a slight chance and it is conceivable that it will be at worst confined to the immediate coast and/or the East End.

Sunday is going to be a frustrating day. While temperatures to the west across interior New Jersey will be in the 70s, with 80s further west and southwest into Pennsylvania down into Virginia, We have that high to the northeast and an east wind. This is going keep us cool with clouds to start to day perhaps going to changeable sky conditions and partly sunny skies developing as the day wears on. However the wind off the ocean means temperatures will be in the 50s all day and on the East End and other ocean facing shorelines it will be in the 40s! The same conditions are forecast for Monday with clouds giving way to changeable sky conditions and limited sun at best. Highs again will be in the 50s to perhaps near 60.

Tuesday brings a cold front and that gets rid of the east wind but it brings in the chance for showers with highs in the 60s. Then in comes another cool air mass and an upper trough for Wednesday through Friday of next week leaving us in colder than normal conditions and the chilly spring pattern continuing. Clouds and sun and scattered showers are possible each day, Wednesday through Friday.
