Long Island Rain 1.5-2 Inches Forecast
The approaching slow moving storm heading for the Appalachians is about to soak Long Island with up to 2 inches of rain over the next 3 days. The bulk of this is going to fall Friday as we see waves of rain and embedded thunderstorms move up the coast. The strong inflow from the southeast and warmer air surging northward up the coast will be setting up an ideal zone for heavy downpours.
The HRRR model has a good view of how this plays. Prior to 10am there will be a few downpours that will move through around daybreak. Then the heaviest rain falls from 10am to 5pm.

Once this is done we transition over to the showers that will be around from time to time Friday night and over the weekend. It won’t rain all the time but the threat will remain through Sunday since this storm system is going anywhere fast and will be lingering over the Northeast right into Monday.

The HRRR rainfall totals show Long Island in the stripe of 1 to 2 inches of rain and notice the stripe of 2 inch plus rains just to the west.
